In a first of its kind report, 精东影业 and NALP examine the student perspective of accelerated recruiting, disruptions to the 1L curriculum, and the inequities such practices may perpetuate regarding access to Big Law careers.

Prelaw advisors at undergraduate institutions serve a vital role in higher education and the legal profession, guiding people through one of the most consequential decisions of their lives: whether to pursue a law degree. Their advisees come to them with questions about where to apply, how to present themselves as applicants, and where to attend. Advisors perform this work under significant institutional constraints, such as a lack of time, funding, or other support.

As paradigms change in the legal profession, from the way law is practiced to the way firms operate, we must ask ourselves a very simple question: Can we upend the 鈥渘ormal鈥 way we have approached diversity, equity, and inclusion work so we can improve outcomes for individuals from marginalized identities?
The 精东影业 Prelaw Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program highlights the need for intentionality in how we use research, student feedback, and data in pipeline development.

This project examined the relevance of law school alumni networks to graduates鈥 careers. Two studies investigated intraorganizational and interorganizational influences on graduates鈥 careers; an ongoing third study investigates how these influences vary by gender, race/ethnicity, and school attended.

Although law schools have seen rising representation of diverse racial/ethnic groups among students, minorities continue to represent disproportionately small percentages of lawyers within large corporate law firms.
